Sacraficial rituals, a diseased fog,  and a dangerous witch determined to amass an army of Boggards…

The adventure begins as the party stumbles upon a Shambling Mound feasting upon impaled corpses.  Regardless of how they resolve the encounter, they will be exposed to a strange fog that ultimately transforms its victims into Boggards dedicated to the service of the witch Anasinthe.  The fog is spreading and now threatens the nearby settlement of Rania.  Can the party solve the mystery and end this curse before it consumes them and all of Mistwick?

This adventure is the fifth in a new campaign world (Mistwick Marshes) where the spirits of an ancient elvish civilization still roam the muggy swamp and don’t take kindly to those who seek to loot their ruins.  Settlers on the frontier face constant perils from dangerous monsters, insidious witches, and roaming barbarian gangs.

New Adventure! “Rania’s Curse”

I’ve just published the 4th adventure in my Mistwick Marshes Campaign Setting.  Its on sale right now at Drive Thru Rpg for only $3!

Final Cover - DTRPG.jpg

Here’s the Description:

3.5 Compatible Adventure for 4 PCs of levels 3-5

The party is propositioned to clear the road to a new settlement site at Lake Rania. They are also separately tasked with seeking out an oracle rumored to still be alive in the ruins of an ancient elvish temple nearby. Their patron hopes to learn the identity of the mastermind behind a rash of crimes against racial minorities in the town. Unfortunately, the temple has partially sunk into the lake (rendering the entire first floor under water) and the oracle has been transformed into a hideous Medusa. Should the party escape this underwater tomb, they must still face its ghostly guardians who wish to keep its secrets buried. Finally, upon their return to the town, they will be ambushed by a cult of human supremacist who wish to use their death as a justification for a war against racial minorities in the region.

Although this adventure was designed such that it could be placed into virtually any campaign world with minimal modifications, it also serves as the follow-up to DNMM-03 “Don’t Blame the Mob” and will lead into future adventures in Mistwick. The politics of the town and many of its inhabitants will become important NPCs and adventure hooks in the future.

This adventure is the fourth in a new campaign world (Mistwick Marshes) where the spirits of an ancient elvish civilization still roam the muggy swamp and don’t take kindly to those who seek to loot their ruins.  Settlers on the frontier face constant perils from dangerous monsters, insidious witches, and roaming barbarian gangs.

With this Purchase you get:

  • An Adventure book (22 pages) that includes:
    • Complete Stat Blocks for all creatures and GM Reference Maps as close to the description of the encounter as possible.
  • A Map Book (135 pages) that includes:
    • Ready to Print, scaled (5′ = 1″) letter sized, multiple page PDFs in color for all combat encounters.  No need to mess with printer settings – just print, cut the white margins, and glue/tape together so that the overlapping parts match for a seamless map.
    • This includes the main Temple map (2 floors) and 2 encounter maps (both available with or without the grid.
  • Zip file contains:
    • Full sized JPGs for all maps to use with your favorite VTT or to take to your local print shop.

And here is my One-Page Dungeon Entry (2015) that inspired the adventure:

In the crypts beneath the church, they will encounter a number of nefarious monsters along with a gang of bandits who are both behind the disease’s occurance, and hold the key to its cure.

In addition to the main quest (and rewards) associated with solving the disease mystery, the party has the opportunity to get involved in the town’s politics by helping an innocent man escape jail, brokering trade relations with the Jademi (Reclusive nomadic clans of Half-Elfs), and making useful contacts with an aspiring spy/assassin guild.

Troglodyte’s Lair

Made this map for the April/May 2013 Lite Challenge at the Cartographer’s Guild.  It depicts a cavern that is situated beneath an inn on the outskirts of a small coastal fishing village.  The cavern serves as an entry point for a smuggling operation and is protected by a small tribe of Troglodytes.

There are actually 3 entry/exit points – The first is through a well on the surface which drops about 50 feet into a larger pool of water (top right of the map). The second is a small dock (bottom left of the map) where you would sail into an alcove on the side of the cliff. The 3rd is a secret stairwell that runs from the basement of the inn to the top right of the map (not sure how to actually depict that yet).

Backstory – The cavern is an entry and storage point for a smuggling operation run by the Inn Keeper. He has found a way to manipulate the Trogs into protecting it and often disposes of meddling adventurers in the well (If all goes as planned – PCs would be drugged by the Inn Keeper and wake up falling into the dark cavern – they will need to fight/sneak their way through the lair to the safety of the dock).

The Traps (depicted on the right pane) disperse Troglodyte “Musk” whose scent alerts others than enemies are about.  The Step traps can be found throughout, while the Chest trap is  situated with other cargo in the map and is used to alert the Trogs when smugglers besmirch their otherwise impeccable reputation for integrity by trying to steal loot…if you can’t trust a smuggler who can you trust?

Troglodyte Lair - v5

Made with CC3 and some final touch-ups in Photoshop

And here’s a version I made for a contest at the Profantasy Website.

U1 – Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh (Al-Qadim Revision)

The PCs want to incorporate a pirate-type element into our existing game.  I thought that a nice little introduction might be the old-school classic D&D adventures U1 – “The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh”.  The first part of the adventure has them exploring a “Haunted House” only to discover that it is really a secret smuggler’s den.  The second part has them assaulting the smuggler’s ship.  Because our game is in 3.5 and in the Al-Qadim world, I will have to make some serious revisions.  In terms of mapping, I decided to completely overhaul the original floor plan of the Haunted House in favor of one that was heavily inspired by a Mansion blue print provided in the Al-Qadim source books.  In the end, it will have everything required to run this part of the adventure and more – though things will be moved around quite a bit.

So without further ado – This is the first of three maps for the Haunted House (still have to do the second floor and basement).  It was created in CC3 with all objects and textures found on the Duninni Forums and/or CGTextures.com.

Haunted House - New 3
